Union Minister of State for PMO, V. Narayanasamy says that unless Sri Lanka puts an end to the arrests of Indian fishermen, nothing fruitful would come out of the proposed talks between the two countries on the festering fishermen issue.
The Indian minister made these comments while speaking to the media on the sidelines of a party event in Karaikal.
Sri Lanka Navy has continued to arrest several Indian fishermen who have illegally ventured into Sri Lankan waters, despite discussion held between fishermen representatives of both countries in January.
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, recently voiced his opinion on the fishermen issue, said that Indian fishermen have no right to infiltrate the IMBL and engage in fishing in the Sri Lankan territorial waters.
He also said the Navy is doing its best to protect the marine resources in the Lankan waters and to stabilize the livelihood of Northern Tamil fishermen.
