Anything we say of a definitive nature will dilute our ability to help - Khurshid

We are very careful about anything we say of a definitive nature as it will dilute our ability to be of help to Sri Lanka, Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid told Ada Derana.
He added that for India to be of help, Sri Lanka must be able to take a course of action that will enable India to help.
Khurshid made these comments in response to questions raised by Ada Derana concerning the effect of resolutions at the UNHRC as well as the possibility of it jeopardizing the reconciliation process and aggravating the wounds left by the three-decade long conflict.
Minister Khurshid met a group of Sri Lankan senior journalists at the Indian External Affairs ministry in New Delhi today.
The Indian Minister went on to say that Sri Lanka cannot be kept in isolation as once China did in the past therefore Sri Lanka should find ways of communicating its limitations and capacities to the world in the process of reconciliation.
He added that some countries have patience but others don’t and those who do may be driven by the pressure of the diaspora as their vote matters to their constituencies during elections the Minister added.
However Khurshid is of the view that Sri Lanka needs to find creative solutions in order to reconcile the nation that has been wrecked by a prolonged conflict adding that India is willing to share with Sri Lanka and assist in its endeavour of building peace in the country.
India remains optimistic regarding the implementation of the 13th amendment and congratulated Sri Lanka for conducting elections in the Northern Province thereby giving the people in the area the chance to elect its representatives. He stated that Sri Lanka had done a lot of work after the war but said it needs to do more in terms of reconciliation.
The Indian Minister said that some countries are impatient and suspicious but India urged them to look at possible ways to avoid hostility adding that “diplomacy is the art of finding solutions”.
Khurshid also reminded Lankan authorities that the main objective is finding lasting peace in Sri Lanka.
