A 53-year-old mother of two died after a locally manufactured firearm accidentally discharged at a residence in Iddamalpitiya, Galgamuwa last night.
The woman was shot when the rifle, used for chasing away wild animals from crops, was being taken out from a tractor by a relative of the woman.
A piece of wood from the tractor had struck the trigger of the gun causing it to discharge, Ada Derana reporter said.
The 20-year-old youth holding the firearm was also injured from the incident, which occurred at around 11.00pm yesterday.
He was admitted to the Galgamuwa Hospital and later transferred to the Kurunegala Base Hospital.
