
Fine Indian nationals attempting to smuggle around one kilogram of gold out of the country have been arrested at the Katunayake international airport last night.
The suspects were arrested at around 11.00pm yesterday as they were preparing to board a flight to Bangalore, an Ada Derana reporter said.
One person had been wearing unfinished gold bracelets, weighing around 200 grams, which were painted over with a silver liquid.
The value of the total haul of gold is estimated at nearly Rs 5 million, airport officials said.
Airport customs are conducing further investigations.
