Principals to get a lesson on Facebook

The Ministry of Education has decided to implement a special programme to educate school authorities regarding internet use and social networking websites such as Facebook, the Secretary of the ministry Anura Dissanayake said.
The programme will be carried out under 6 ministries while a meeting of all principals of national schools will be held in Colombo tomorrow (03) in order to educate them on the matter.
The decision was taken in the wake of the recent controversy surrounding the adverse effects of internet and social media on school students, Dissanayake said.
In addition to this the ministry has also decided to direct emphasis towards the issue of students addicted to drugs.
The Education Secretary stated that a proper programme, to establish community groups on a school level to prevent such issues, will be implemented in the near future.
