The Elections Commissioner stated that several complaints had been made regarding unethical and illegal election propaganda methods including using SMS and mobile phone calls to promote candidates.
Voters had complained that pre-recorded messages were sent by way of mobile phone calls promoting candidates while bulk text messages were also sent to voters with names and numbers of candidates.
The Elections Commissioner stated that this was in violation of elections laws and regulations and were obstacles in ensuring a free and fair election.
The Commissioner also appealed to telecommunication companies to refrain from sending these text messages and pre-recorded messages in the future.
