A person committed suicide after jumping in front of a moving train in the Wellawatta area, police stated.
The train was travelling from Matara to Maradana while police are still to uncover the reasons behind the suicide.
The victim was a 36-year-old resident of the Thalayaadi area in Manakkai.
The Wellawatta police are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
