25,000 rotten oranges seized from pavement venders in Pettah

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) today seized around 25,000 oranges unsuitable for human consumption, from pavement venders near the Gunasinghepura bus stand in Pettah.
The CAA says that the rotten fruits, which were seized in a special operation carried out this morning, were being sold to consumer at very low prices and that according to information received the stock of oranges have been imported from China.
One person has been arrested over the import and distribution of oranges unsuitable for consumption and he will be produced at the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today, the CAA said.
