Speaking at the 25th regular session of the Human Rights Council the US claimed that it is alarmed at the attacks on religious minorities within Sri Lanka. US urged member states of the UNHRC to vote for the resolution as only continued attention at the UNHRC would promote reconciliation in Sri Lanka.
The Macedonian delegation added that more than four years have gone by since the end of the conflict and the government of Sri Lanka has yet not made significant progress on reconciliation issues. It also highlighted issues of violence based on religion in Sri Lanka adding that much remains to be done.
