
The Italian delegation speaking on behalf of the European Union at the 25th UNHRC sessions in Geneva extended its full support to the US-led resolution on Sri Lanka and encouraged the OHCHR to conduct a comprehensive and independent inquiry into war crimes allegations in Sri Lanka.
The EU highlighted several issues including that of internally displaced persons, compulsory land acquisition and religious intolerance in the country while expressing its concern on the limited progress of the recommendations of the LLRC.
It further urged the government of Sri Lanka to uphold human rights within the country and fully implement the recommendations of the LLRC.
The EU further extended its full support to the resolution while calling on members to support it as well.
