DMK Treasurer M K Stalin today slammed the Indian Government for abstaining from voting on US-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva as he claimed credit for the party for the past votes by India against the island nation.
India had voted against Sri Lanka on three previous occasions due to the “pressure” exerted by his party, which was then a partner of UPA. However, the government was boldened and abstained from voting today as DMK was not in the government, he told an election rally in Coimbatore.
Some political parties, who were always politicising the issue, should know that it was his party which fought for the right and cause of Tamils in Sri Lanka, he claimed.
Stating that he along with party MP, T R Baalu had gone to Geneva and handed over the resolution adopted at the TESO meeting, under the directive of party President M Karunanidhi, Stalin said that UPA Government had then voted for the USA-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka in 2013, PTI reported.
