Assault attempt on Asst. Elections Comm.

A group of supporters of a Southern Province UPFA candidate have reportedly attempted to assault an Assistant Elections Commissioner in the Weralapara area in Matara this morning.
People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) stated that a group of officials including Assistant Elections Commissioner Aruna Fernanado were removing several cutouts of a certain candidate when his supporters had attempted to assault them.
Such incidents greatly affect the conducting of a free and fair election, the Executive Director of the PAFFREL organization, Rohana Hettiarachchi said.
