The ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance has obtained the highest number of votes in the Galle District with 293,619 while the United National Party has received less than half that number with 134,305 votes.
The Sarath Fonseka-led Democratic Party has received the third highest number of voted in the district with 45,484 while the People’s Liberation Front (JVP) managed just 30,529 votes.
Therefore the UPFA has secured 13 seats in the Southern Provincial Council from the Galle District while the UNP has obtained 6 seats. The DP and JVP have secured 2 and 1 seat respectively.
However, when compared to the final district result of the previous election the UPFA, which had secured 16 seats in the 2009 Provincial Council election, has lost 3 seats in this election as it appears two of those seats have been secured by the DP.
The UNP has managed to retain its 6 seats and the JVP has done the same with its 1 seat. Meanwhile the number of seats allocated for the Galle District has been reduced by one.
The Galle District postal voting results left UPFA with the highest amount of votes with 14,111 votes while UNP received 3,718 votes. The Democratic Party received 3,209 votes while the JVP got 1,438 votes.
In the Habaraduwa Polling Division, the UPFA received 26,579 votes while the UNP received 9,849. The DP and JVP received 4,649 and 2,881 respectively.
In the Ambalangoda polling division the UPFA received 27,575, the UNP received 8,193, DP 7,347 and JVP 2,088.
The UPFA received 25,436 in the Karandeniya polling division while the UNP received 10,618. DP received 3,140 votes while JVP got 1,522 votes.
In the Hiniduma polling division the UPFA received the highest number of votes with 41,884 votes while the UNP got 18,672 votes. The DP and JVP received 2,073 and 1,850 votes respectively.
The UNP received the highest number of votes in the Galle polling division with 19,348 votes while the UPFA received 18,611 votes. The JVP and DP received 6,061 and 4,355 respectively.
The UPFA won the highest votes in the Ratgama polling division with 26,688 votes while the UNP only managed 9,681 votes with DP and JVP receiving 4,911 and 2,436.
In the Baddegama polling division, the UPFA received 34,513 votes while the UNP received 17,295. The DP and JVP received 3,684 and 2,293 votes respectively.
The UPFA received 28,290 votes in the Akmeemana polling division while the UNP, JVP and DP received 12,512 votes, 6,114 votes and 6,034 votes respectively.
In the Bentara-Elpitiya polling division the UPFA received 32,906 votes while the UNP received 15,945 votes. The DP and JVP received 2,676 and 2,645 votes respectively.
The Balapitiya polling division saw the UPFA receive 17,026 votes with the UNP receiving 8,474 votes and the DP and JVP receiving 3,406 and 1,201 votes each.
