Thirteen students of Rajarata University have been suspended for allegedly assaulting a group of students from the same university.
The 13 students, second year and third year students, have been imposed 5 week suspension for assaulting a group of 4th year students, the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Ranjith Wijewardena said.
At least 8 persons were wounded and hospitalized after a group of students at the university’s Dutugamunu Hostel were assaulted on March 29.
Several fourth year students were reportedly assaulted because they had warned another group of students, who had behaved in an inappropriate manner near a girls’ hostel under the influence of alcohol.
The Vice Chancellor stated that the group of students were temporarily suspended following an internal inquiry carried out by the administration of the Rajarata University.
Twelve of the suspended students are from the university’s Management Studies Faculty while one is a student of the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
