The actions of extremist organizations such as the Bodu Bala Sena will result in the loss of support to Sri Lanka from foreign nations, warned the Sri Lanka Muslims Religious and Civil Society Organization.
In a letter addressed to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the organization stated that it rejected the false propaganda spread by the BBS concerning the resettlement of Muslims in the North.
It claimed that due to the attacks of the LTTE in the 1990s the Muslim people of the North had been displaced and had lived in IDP camps and in other areas of the island.
The letter further asserted that after the Sri Lankan armed forces defeated the LTTE, the Muslim families of the North were looking forward to resettling in the villages that they were born in. However, the organization claimed that although at least 35,000 families had wanted to resettle in the North, only 22,000 had been registered.
It also claimed that since these families were considered older refugees they were not entitled to the UNHRC refugees benefits.
