Indian Minister for Shipping G.K. Vasan said cracks had developed within the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu owing to the BJP’s silence on Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

Speaking to reporters in Tirunelveli on Saturday, Mr. Vasan said the BJP in its manifesto had clearly mentioned about construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya but uttered no word about Sri Lankan Tamils or about the attack on Tamil fishermen by the Lankan Navy when its allies in Tamil Nadu were highlighting all these issues to show the Congress in a bad light.

So, there were a lot of contradictions in the ‘rainbow alliance’ even before the elections; so, the pact would not last long, he said.

On retrieval of Katchatheevu and the continuing attack on Tamil Nadu fishermen allegedly by the Lankan navy, Mr. Vasan said he had raised this issue with the Prime Minister and urged him to reconsider the Centre’s decision on the Katchatheevu issue.

“We’ve taken all measures to put an end to the continuing attacks on Tamil fishermen on the high seas,” he was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
