Sri Lanka Police says that it has broadened investigations into persons aiding and abetting attempts for the revival of the now defunct LTTE terrorist organization, in the wake of the recent killing of three suspected Tamil Tiger operatives by army soldiers in the North.

Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana stated that they have received information regarding several individuals engaged in such activities, aimed at reviving the separatist group, and functioning from abroad.

He stated that the Police Department has sought the assistance of INTERPOL for the apprehending of Perinbanayagam Sivaparan alias Nediyavan, who controls part of the LTTE overseas network, and Segarampillai Vinayagamoorthy alias Vinayagam, the LTTE intelligence Leader who operates from Europe.

They are said to be the current leaders of the overseas LTTE, which is split into two factions, with Nediyavan based in Norway and Vinayagam operating from France.

It had been uncovered by security forces that the 3 top LTTE suspects, gunned down by army soldiers on Friday, had received funding from Europe for the revival of the terrorist outfit through the two LTTE factions.

The three men were operating from a jungle in the Padaviya area of northern Mullaittivu district when they were surrounded by soldiers early Friday and were shot and killed while trying to escape the cordon.

Police in recent weeks have arrested about 65 persons, accusing them of helping a renewed armed campaign.
