
UNP candidate from Matale District, A.H.M. Ibrahim was sworn in as a member of the Central Provincial Council today, filling the seat left vacant following the death of former Provincial Councilor Sanjeewa Kaviratne.
Mr Ibrahim, who received 12,886 preference votes in the 2013 Provincial Council election, was next in the list of UNP candidates from the Matale District and was nominated for the vacant seat.
He took oaths before the Governor of the Central Province, Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Ada Derana reporter said.
UNP Central Provincial Council member Sanjeewa Kaviratne, son of former UNP Deputy Minister P. B. Kaviratne, passed away on March 16 at the age of 44 due to an illness.
