
The Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Dunya Maumoon, today pledged her country’s continuous support to Sri Lanka at international fora, during a meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.
The discussion held this morning focused on a number of matters of mutual interest including education and further strengthening bilateral relations, the Presidential Media Unit said.
“On the international front, let me assure you of the Maldives’ continuous support,” Ms. Maumoon said during the meeting. This visit is Ms. Maumoon’s second visit to Sri Lanka as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Her last visit was when she accompanied Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen during the State Visit to Sri Lanka in January of this year.
She will join former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who is currently in Sri Lanka, for a reception President Rajapaksa is hosting as the Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth to celebrate cultural diversity of Commonwealth nations.
The Acting High Commissioner of Maldives in Sri Lanka Dr. Hassian Niyaaz accompanied Ms. Maumoon. Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, Secretary to the President Mr. Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Mrs. Kshenuka Senewiratne were present for the meeting.
