The Chief Incumbent of the Galamuna Sri Wardanaramaya in Mahawewa, Venerable Yatiyana Sri Siddhaloka Thero, claims that a certain group of individuals had assaulted and attempted to abduct him last night.
The Thero says that three unknown men in a three-wheeler had attempted to abduct him and that when he resisted one of them attacked him with a club.
The Thero is currently receiving treatment at the Marawila Base Hospital.
Siddhaloka Thero states that another Buddhist monk was present at the temple at the time of the attack and that when he had notified other people at the temple regarding the incident the attackers had fled.
The reason behind the attack and abduction attempt has not been uncovered yet while Marawila Police are conducting further investigations.
