The Department of Meteorology today said that the atmospheric disturbances located to the west of Sri Lanka has intensified in to a low pressure area.
Due to the active cloudiness associated with the system sudden increase of wind speed (70-80 kmph) over the island and sea areas around the island is possible.
Therefore there is a high possibility of sudden roughness of the sea areas, the severe weather alert issued by the Early Warning Centre of the Met Department said.
Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island and around the sea areas. Very heavy falls (about 150mm) are also likely at some places, it said.
