Illegal gambling center raided in Town Hall; 34 arrested

Thirty-four individuals, including a woman, have been arrested following a raid carried out at an illegal gambling center in Town Hall, Colombo this evening, police said.
The popular gambling center was raided by a team of officers including the OIC of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), Chief Inspector Neville Silva, and OIC of the Western Province anti-vice squad Inspector Chandana at around 6.00pm today.
A total of 27 suspects, including a woman, and 7 employees of the gambling center have been taken into custody, police said.
The Colombo Crimes Division is conducting further investigations.
This is the second raid carried out on the illegal gambling center in question. Twenty-three police officers who had carried out a similar raid on the establishment last year were controversially transferred following the incident.
Media reports had alleged the involvement of Lakshman Hulugalle, the former Director General of the now defunct Media Center for National Security (MCNS).
