A spokesman for India’s ruling Congress party has conceded defeat in the national election, saying the nation voted “against us.” The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party is set to earn enough parliamentary seats to create a government without forming a coalition with regional leaders.
Indicating extension of its winning run since the 2011 Assembly elections, ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu today forged ahead in 30 out of 39 Lok Sabha seats leaving way behind its arch-rival DMK, which seems to be heading for yet another electoral loss. However due to the large margin of the BJP win an alliance with Jayalalitha’s AIADMK seems unlikely to form a government.
The Election Commission was expected to announce full results later Friday.
