New traffic plan in Matara in view of Victory Day parade

Sri Lanka’s Victory Day parade will be held in Matara on May 18 under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and representatives of foreign countries.

In view of the Victory Day Parade, a new traffic plan will be in force in Matara on May 16, 17 and 18 from 5 am, Senior Superintendent of Police T.M.W. D. Tennakoon said.  Also the Matara main bus stand will be temporarily shifted to Isadeen town on May 17 and 18.

Accordingly all heavy vehicles including lorries and trucks plying on the Galle road from Kataragama and Tangalle can reach Weligama via Dickwella new Road, Beliatta, Hakmana, Kamburupitiya, Akuressa and Theliggawila.

Heavy vehicles heading for Tangalle on the Galle road will be diverted to Akuressa from Weligama and could reach Beliatta via Kamburupitiya and Hakmana. The vehicles can reach Tangalle or Dickwella from Beliatta.

All light vehicles including buses carrying passengers heading for Tangalle and Kataragama will be diverted from Walgama junction via Rahula junction, Hunukotuwa, Good Shed road, Yatiyana junction, Kekanadura junction and Thalalla Technical College.

Lights vehicles including passenger vehicles heading towards Colombo from Tangalle and Kataragama will be diverted at Thalalla Technical College. These vehicles can reach Galle road at Walgama junction via Kekanadura junction, Yatiyana junction, Good Shed road, Hunukotuwa and Rahula junction.

All vehicles travelling from the Godagama exit of the Southern Expressway can reach Tangalle road through Rahula junction, Hunukotuwa, Good Shed, Hakmana road, Yatiyana, Kekanadura junction, Viyanoruwa, Gandara and Thalalla Technical College.

All vehicles entering the Southern Expressway can reach Godagama junction via Akuressa, Hunukotuwa and Goodshed. The vehicles can also use Walgama Welegoda road to enter the Expressway, Govt. Info Department reports.
