Responding to a congratulatory message from Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, India’s prime minister-elect Narendra Modi has said that he is looking forward to strong relations between Sri Lanka and India.
“It was wonderful speaking to you (Mahinda Rajapaksa) earlier today. I look forward to strong relations between Sri Lanka & India,” Modi wrote on Twitter.
Heads of government of Britain, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Australia and Israel sent congratulatory messages to Modi as the results were declared on Friday.
In a first for India, BJP’s party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, after winning the Lok Sabha election, took to microblogging website Twitter to thank world leaders who congratulated him on his victory.
Whether it is Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott or Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, British Prime Minister David Cameron or Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Modi’s initiative to thank one and all on a platform like Twitter indicates the infusion of fresh air into the ties shared by India with the rest of the world.
Modi, who has been using Twitter to reach out to a wider audience, is quite famous in the virtual world. Right from posting selfies to putting forth his arguments on the microblogging site, Modi is known as a tech-savvy leader.
