Girl commits suicide by jumping in front of train

A 16-year-old female student has committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train near the Kollupitiya railway station.

Police said the victim, a Grade 11 student of a school in Kollupitiya, was critically injured after jumping in front of a train, traveling towards Maradana from Kalutara, at around 3.15pm yesterday.

She succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, police said.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Panadura while police are yet to determine the reason for committing suicide.

Kollupitiya Police are conducting further investigations.
