Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 73 Indian fishermen for violating the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and venturing into Sri Lankan waters.
Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya stated that the fishermen were arrested in separate instances in seas off Talaimannar and Delft.
A group of 41 fishermen in 8 trawlers were intercepted in seas off Talaimannar while the other 32 fishermen also in 8 boats were arrested off Delft Island.
The arrested fishermen have been taken to Talaimannar and KKS harbours and handed over to fisheries authorities.
Indian media reports that the 41 fishermen are from Rameswaram and Thangachimadam and that they were among a larger group of fishermen from the two hamlets who went for fishing in around 500 boats on Sunday morning.
The arrest comes just days after 33 Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lanka Navy were released as ordered by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
