A Pakistani spokesman says militants have attacked a security training facility at the Karachi airport and that a firefight is underway with the attackers.

The attack comes less than two days after gunmen laid siege to the Karachi airport in an attack that left 36 people dead, including 10 Taliban gunmen.

Ghulam Abbas Memon, a spokesman for the Airport Security Force, says gunmen tried to enter the facility from two different entrances on Tuesday but the security forces were fighting them back.

Memon says he doesn’t have any details on the number of attackers or possible casualties.

“Gunmen are exchanging fire with Airport Security Force personnel at a checkpost guarding the airport,” an ASF spokesman said.

According to GEO TV, all flight operations at the airport have been suspended.

A leading TV channel showed number of paramilitary vehicles and ambulances being rushed to the attacked site to evacuate the passengers.

Talking on the evacuation process, an ASF spokesperson said, “We have suspended all flight operations at Karachi airport and we are evacuating passengers.”

Meanwhile the Pakistani army says it has carried out airstrikes in a tribal region near the Afghan border, killing at least 15 militants.

An army statement says the air raids on Tuesday morning pounded nine hideouts of the militants in the Tirah Valley of the Khyber tribal region.

The area is part of a lawless terrain along the Afghan border that is home to a mix of local militants and al-Qaida-linked foreign fighters.

UPDATE: Pakistan sources confirmed to Ada Derana that there were no casualties from today’s fring at the security camp and denied foreign media reports of 5 deaths.
