The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched an investigation into a financial fraud of over Rs 1.2 million in the Department of Pensions allegedly by its Chief Internal Audit Officers.
Investigations have been launched by the CID following a complaint lodged by two pensioners, stating that the pension officer at the Warakapola Divisional Secretariat had prepared arrears while according to the audit only the monthly pension has been credited to the pensioners’ accounts and not the arrears.
Information has been uncovered that the female pension officer in question had swindled Rs 1,250,000 by transferring the arrears to two different bank accounts.
The CID has arrested the pension officer and her husband and they are to be produced at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
