8 injured after van crashes into telephone pole

At least 8 persons were injured and hospitalised after a van transporting a group of pilgrims veered off the road and crashed into a telephone pole in the Mangala Eliya area on the Putalam-Colombo road this morning.
Police said that the accident took place at around 6.30am today and that 3 women and a 13-year-old girl are among those admitted to the Puttalam Hospital. One of the wounded women is said to be critical condition.
The passengers, residents of Delgoda in Gampaha, were returning from Anuradhapura when the driver was unable to control the vehicle which was traveling at high speeds, police said.
Mundalama Police are conducting an investigation.
