
Customs officers at the Katunayake International Airport today arrested an Indian national and a Sri Lankan over an attempt to smuggle gold worth around Rs 30 million into the country.
The Indian man had arrived from Singapore on flight UL 307 at around 11.10am with 6 slabs of gold, each weighing one kilogram.
The Sri Lankan man had reportedly assisted the suspect in attempting to secreatly smuggle the gold out of the airport.
He was arrested when attempting to leave the airport with the Indian national’s gold concealed in his shoes and pockets, customs said.
