
The officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Saliyawewa Police Station, who was charged with dereliction of duty after failing to produce a local politician before a court, has been transferred to the Nuwara Eliya Police Division with immediate effect.
The Police OIC’s actions in the recent arrest of the Karuwalagaswewa Pradeshiya Sabha vice chairman Chaminda Ruwansiri had come under criticism.
Ruwansiri, was arrested on June 7 for allegedly assaulting a police officers and obstructing his duties during the arrest of a driver transporting illegally mined sand in Puliyankulama.
The Saliyawewa Police OIC was charged with dereliction of duty after he failed to produce the arrested Pradeshiya Sabha vice chairman before court.
The transfer was ordered by the Inspector General of Police due to the charges against the OIC, police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.
