
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been presented with the “Parliamentary Order Merit Democratic Rep. Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruza” at the Legislative Assembly in La Paz, Bolivia.
Vice President of Bolivia and President of the Legislative Assembly Mr. Álvaro García Linera presented the award, which is the highest honor awarded by the Plurinational State of Bolivia and recognizes contributions to peace and democracy.
President Rajapaksa, who traveled to Bolivia to participate in the G77+China Summit in Santa Cruz, arrived in the Bolivian city of La Paz on Monday (June 16) morning.
He was received by high-level Bolivian officials at the El Alto International Airport and honored with a military welcome.
President visited the Bolivian Parliament known as the State Assembly and was welcomed by the Bolivian Foreign Minister Mr. David Choquehuanca Céspedes.
While at the State Assembly, President Rajapaksa held bilateral discussion with the Bolivian President and was honored with one of the State Assembly’s highest awards – “Order of the Democratic Merit.”
