41 arrested over Aluthgama-Beruwala violence

Forty one persons have been arrested over the recent violence that took place in Aluthgama and Beruwala, Police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told Ada Derana. Out of those arrested 26 have been produced before courts and remanded, he added. 


More arrests will follow as the investigations roll out and perpetrators will be brought before the law, Rohana claimed. 


Violence ensued after the Bodu Bala Sena held a rally in Aluthgama and proceeded to hold a march. The BBS was blamed by the UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe for inciting racial hatred through speeches made at the rally in Aluthgama.
