UNP Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa today called on the President, government and security forces to take necessary action in order to put an “eternal full stop” to extremism in Sri Lanka.

The shameful incidents which took place in our country in the past couple of days are extremely harmful to the country and its people, he said. “They are an insult, disgrace and shame to the entire country.”

“I would especially like to make a request to the present government to immediately intervene and put a stop to these attempts by various extremist groups to destroy the country,” he told reporters in Colombo.

Those engaged in wrongdoings should be brought before the law, irrespective of their status, no matter what kind of extremist they are and without any difference, Premadasa said.

He stated that the country is currently being controlled by a government, which destroyed 30 years of terrorism, and that it should act immediately to bring these “conspirators and traitors” before the law and obliterate this extremist terrorism.

“That is its responsibility to the country as the government,” he said.

He warned that if the government fails to do so, the country will be destroyed very soon.

Premadasa emphasized that the people do not want another ‘Black July’ to occur in the country and what they want is to show to the world that Sri Lanka is a strong and united nation devoid of any racism or discrimination.

The Hambantota District MP said he identifies every extremist act in the country as a great betrayal of the nation and as the latest terrorism operating in the country.  “This terrorism should be completely destroyed,” he said, adding, that if not the entire country will be engulfed in flames.
