Lecturers at the University of Rajarata have decided to withdraw from all educational and administrative services on Monday (30), in protest over the recent events which occurred within the university.
The university was temporarily closed after the vice chancellor and several lecturers were held hostage overnight by a group of student last week.
The staff was trapped inside the VC’s office due to students, demanding the removal of suspensions imposed on 28 fellow students, preventing them from leaving. Later anti-riot police were called in to disperse the students and the staff was released.
The university is scheduled to be reopened on Monday, lecturers have decided to withdraw from all educational and administrative services, the Secretary of the Rajarata University teachers Association Prof. Ven. Balaganwatte Chandrasiri Thero said.
