
An army soldier died while another 14 persons were wounded after a speeding bus veered off the road and toppled in the Omanthai area in Vavuniya today.
The Vavuniya-bound private bus, arriving from Jaffna, had been traveling at high-speed when the driver had lost control, resulting in the accident at around 3.00pm today.
The deceased is said to be a 29-year-old soldier attached to the army intelligence unit. His body has been placed at the Puliyankulam Hospital mortuary.
A six-month-old baby is reportedly among the wounded persons who have been admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital. Three of them are said to be in critical condition.
