A tense situation has been reported near the Sapugaskanda oil refinery as several UNP MPs on a fact finding mission to the plant were denied entry by a group of employees.
Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that a group of trade union activists had blocked the UNP Parliamentarians leading to a tense situation and that they had later turned back.
Earlier today the officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Sapugaskanda Police Station had obtained a court order from the Mahara Magistrate to arrest any persons causing the disruption of peace during the fact finding mission.
A group of UNP MPs had faced a similar situation when they had visited Mattala Airport in Hambantota for an inspection.
The Sapugaskanda oil refinery, which had been closed down for over a month, resumed operations yesterday with taking delivery of crude oil unloaded through the repaired hose.
