The Cabinet today approved a proposal by the Education Minister to permit students who failed Mathematics in Ordinary Level examination to pass the subject within 2 years while in Advanced Level class.
Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardana had recently submitted a cabinet paper that would allow for G.C.E. Ordinary Level students failing mathematics to continue education.
The students will be granted a period of 2 years to pass the Mathematics subject while studying for G.C.E. Advanced Level examination.
However, this opportunity will only be granted for students who have obtained three credits for subjects other than mathematics O/L exam.
In April, the Ministry of Education had appointed a Committee to look into reasons why a large number of students have failed Mathematics at the GCE Ordinary Level exam last year (2013).
