
A suspect has been arrested for attempting to smuggle two gold biscuits, worth Rs 2.6 million and weighing 443 grams, to India by concealing them in his body.
The 43-year-old man, from Jaffna, had arrived at the Katunayake International Airport this morning and was preparing to board the Bangalore-bound SriLankan Airlines flight UL-172 when he was arrested by customs officers.
He was stopped and searched due to suspicious behavior, customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said, adding, that the suspect was fined Rs 25,000 and the gold confiscated.
