At least 47 persons including 28 children were injured and hospitalised following a wasp attack at a preschool, being conducted at the Mallikarama Temple near the Kataragama Hospital this morning.
Twenty-eight children, 16 women and 3 men are among the injured persons admitted to the Kataragama District Hospital following the wasp attack which had taken place at around 7.45am today, Ada Derana reporter said.
However, one of the injured women and a child have been transferred to the Tissamaharama Hospital owing to their serious condition, District Medical Officer R.P. Sarath told Ada Derana.
Residents in the area say that a wasp nest which had been located in a mango tree in front of the preschool had fallen to the ground due to strong winds this morning and that this had led to the attack.
