
Four persons returning from Madu pilgrimage were wounded and hospitalised after the three-wheeler they were traveling in toppled and burst into flames in the 19th Mile Post area on the Puttalam-Anuradhapura road.
Police said the accident took place at around 8.45pm yesterday (15) while the injured persons, including two women, were admitted to the Aluthgama Hospital in Karuwalagaswewa-17th Mile Post and later transferred to the Puttalam Base Hospital.
They are residents of Dematagoda in Colombo.
The accident had occurred when the three-wheeler, traveling at high-speed, attempted to overtake a lorry and toppled, causing it to catch fire instantly.
The three-wheeler has been complexly destroyed in the fire while Saliyawewa Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
