
Doctor Nimal Gamage who was arrested after a female doctor died at his cosmetic surgery clinic in Bambalapitiya was further remanded until August 25 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today.
The doctor was produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohammed Shabdeen, who ordered that he be further remanded.
On August 12, a 47-year old lady doctor died following an injection given at the well-known cosmetic surgery clinic located at Visaka road, Colombo 4.
She was pronounced dead upon admission to the hospital due to suffering from chest pains and breathing difficulties after being administered an antibiotic.
The deceased, P.A. Priyangi (47), was attached to the Plastic Surgery Unit of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital.
Dr. Nimal Gamage, who had obtained his MBBS from Sri Lanka and is a specialist in beauty culture in US, was arrested over the death the following day and remanded until Monday (18).
Expired drugs and cosmetics have been found, during a search carried out at the cosmetic surgery clinic owned by Dr. Nimal Gamage.
The search was carried out in a joint operation by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD), the Cosmetic Devices and Drug Regulatory Authority (CDDRA) and the Government Analyst’s Department.
