The suspect who was arrested after he stabbed to death a man and wounded two other persons near the Hulftsdorp Court Complex this morning, is the father of a girl who was allegedly raped by one of the victims.

A dispute between two parties who had arrived for the hearing of a court case had led to the stabbing of a man, his son and daughter. The father had succumbed to injuries while the brother-sister duo was admitted to the Colombo national hospital with injuries.

However, the suspect responsible for carrying out the stabbing was immediately arrested by police.

The young male injured in the stabbing is reportedly accused of raping of the arrested suspect’s daughter several days back and demanding Rs 12,000 in ransom to refrain from posting footage of the incident online.

The arrested suspect had informed police that the 25-year-old youth and his 17-year-old daughter had developed a relationship through a social networking website and that as a result he had taken her to a hotel and raped her after giving her some drugs.

Later that day he had threatened to release video footage of the incident online if she did not pay him a sum of Rs 12,000. Frightened by the threat the girl had notified her father on the incident and they had both visited the Kotahena Police Station to lodge a complaint.

The youth was arrested by police, according to the complaint, and remanded after being produced before court. However, when the case was taken up for hearing today the accused was released on bail.

While the youth was leaving the court premises with his father and sister after being released on bail, the victim’s father had taken out a concealed knife and stabbed the youth in a fit of anger to extract revenge for the raping of his daughter.

The youth’s father and sister had attempted to intervene during the stabbing, however too had suffered injuries. All three of the injured were rushed to the Colombo National Hospital, however the father was pronounced dead on admittance.

The youth and his sister, who are from Moratuwa, are still receiving treatment at the hospital.
