Buddhadasa sues Min. Weerawansa for Rs. 500 mn

Mayor of the Kaduwela Municipal Council H.A. Buddhadasa has filed a lawsuit against Wimal Weerawansa claiming Rs.500 million as compensation. The case was filed in the Colombo District courts through lawyers representing Buddhadasa, today.
The case has been filed following a false and defamatory article carried out by ‘Panchayudha’ newspaper which was published by the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) during its 2nd National summit in last April, Ada Derana reporter said.
It was widely known that Mayor Buddhadasa and Minister Weerawansa are at loggerheads over several issues for years. In 2011 Buddhadasa lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) alleging that the Minister had violated election laws during the Kaduwela Municipal Council elections in 2011.
