General Secretary of MDMK, Vaiko today urged the United Nations to withdraw Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s invitation to deliver his address at the General Assembly.
Referring to the alleged war crimes committed during the civil war in Sri Lanka that ended in 2009, Vaiko said that Rajapaksa has committed the inferable crime of “genocide of Tamil,” and that he should be tried by the international court.
An independent international investigation, he added, has been ordered by Human rights Commissioner, but Rajapaksa has the audacity to say that he will not permit the investigation team to enter Sri Lanka.
“In this situation the United Nations extended an invitation to Rajapaksa to address the General Assembly. It is disgusting, it is deplorable and condemnable.
“Therefore to maintain the credibility of the United Nations, it should not allow Rajapaksa to address the General Assembly,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
