One arrsted with 158 Anthurium bushes at BIA

A Sri Lankan passenger, 30-year-old, from Minuwangoda, has been arrested by Customs at Bandaranaike International Airport,last night, with two bags containing 158 bushes of Anthurium.
Customs Media Spokesperson, Leslie Gamini, said that the individual had arrived from Bangkok by UL 423 flight at around 8.00 p.m. According to him, importation of Anthurium plant is prohibited under Plant Protection Act.
After Customs Inquiry held by Deputy Director of Customs Mr. MMA. Silva, forfeited the goods and imposed a penalty of Rs. 10,000.00 and ordered to handover to the National Botanical Garden.
Investigation were being carried out by Supdt. of Customs Saman Balasooriya & J.K. Ariyadasa, Asst. Supdt. Of Customs W. Premjayantha, S.Perera and S.Kumara.
