Court stops LTTE commemoration event in Batticaloa

An event organized to commemorate the LTTE in Saturukondan area in Batticaloa has been prevented through an interim order issued by the Batticaloa Magistrate.
The event was scheduled to launch at 5.00 p.m. last afternoon.
Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said “In prior years the event was organized to commemorate civilian deaths during the war. But, yesterday, the police received details that the organizers had attempted to commemorate the LTTE leaders too who conducted brutal inhuman activities.
Therefore, the Batticaloa police had obtained an interim order to stop the event. The commemoration event was not conducted after the interim order was handed over to the organizers,”
The event was organized by a group of people including Parliamentarian Pon Selvarasa and Sri Yogeswaran, according to the police.
