
Police have launched an investigation into allegations that a member of the Wanathawilluwa Pradeshiya Sabha had molesting 7 school children during an educational excursion.
The suspect is accused of molesting a group of Grade 9, 10, 11 and 12 boys from a Muslim school in Karaitivu in Wanathawilluwa.
It has been reported that around 53 boys, 35 girls, 11 teachers and 3 development committee members, including the PS member, had taken part in the excursion on September 02 to Matara, galle and Hambantota.
The group had spent the night (02) at a mosque in Kappalturai-Weligama. The suspect had molested the students at the mosque on several occasions, police said.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in charge of the Puttalam Division had ordered an investigation into the incident after being notified through a third party.
Investigations carried out Wanathawilluwa Police had uncovered that the boys were molested by the PS member, who is yet to be arrested.
