IGP to visit Monaragala today

IGP N.K Illangakoon will be visiting in Monaragala today in a bid to inspect the security levels in and around the district.
With there has been a spike in election related violence in Moneragala and the widespread use of firearms has become a great concern, an additional security was deployed in the Monaragala District since last Thursday (11), following the directions from the IGP.
The IGP ordered to double the security in the said area as the Election Commissioner pointed out that a final decision on holding the polls on 20 Sept. was still pending as situation in Monaragala district below peaceful election levels.
He said that the Uva PC polls will be held on 20 Sept. as scheduled if the IGP assurance to create a conducive environment.
According to Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE), some 341 election violation incidents have been, thus war, with regard to the Uva polls. Some 241 complaints were reported from Moneragala district while 82 complaints were reported from Badulla district. There were 18 complaints common to both districts.
